ABOUT

Denise Powell – Designer/proprietress

“I grew up on the northern beaches of Sydney and dreamed of travelling the globe. I learned to sew at an early age on an old Singer treadle machine, making myself summer dresses for the beach. After completing high school and living all over Australia, I found myself at the “top end” and hitch-hiked a passage on a yacht to Asia with a couple of New Yorkers. My passion for fabric was awakened upon arrival in Bali. Here everyone wore batik sarongs instead of pants or skirts, and the patterns and colours incorporated into the pieces were boundless.

I continued travelling throughout Asia for the next two years, often hand stitching garments myself from the myriad of beautiful cloth available. I decided to further this passion and moved to California where I studied fashion design and pattern making. Soon after I opened my first boutique selling many of my own designs and continued to grow my business by wholesaling to other stores across the United States.

I returned to Australia in 1999 and worked at freelance pattern making for various designers on the Sunshine Coast. After discovering fabric printed with Australian indigenous artwork, I was inspired to begin designing again.”

We strive to make classic designs that optimise this incredible artwork. Each garment is individually cut and sewn to personal size specifications. If you happen to be fortunate enough to find yourself on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Global Vibe has a stall at Eumundi Markets on Saturdays and Wednesdays.

We hope you enjoy our unique product.
